Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is HospiceCare?

HospiceCare provides compassionate, comprehensive support services before, during, and after end-of-life situations.

What kind of services do you provide?

HospiceCare supports patients and their families with medical and emotional care to enable every moment of life to be fully lived. HospiceCare also provides grief support and educational services to better equip everyone in our community to understand end-of-life issues.

Is HospiceCare the only hospice provider available?

No, there are other locally available hospice services. Patients and their families have choices. For 30 years, HospiceCare has been the largest and oldest hospice organization in our community. We are among the first ten hospice providers in the country. We are the hospice provider of choice in Boulder and Broomfield Counties.

How are you different from other hospice organizations?

We have the largest, professional, local staff providing a full circle of care for individuals and their families. We have the local resources to assure you of the support you need when you need it.

HospiceCare provides:

Who can afford HospiceCare?

Everyone. Because we are a non-profit organization that is in effect owned by, and here for, the community, our services are available to all regardless of ability to pay. Medicare, private insurance, and Medicaid cover most patient costs. It is a pleasure to care for our entire community.

Do I need a Physician Referral?

Anyone can contact HospiceCare. To actually begin receiving hospice services, a doctor’s authorization is required. Our grief and education services are available to all, with no prior HospiceCare services or referral required.

When is the right time to contact HospiceCare?

Today! People often feel they need to wait until there is a terminal diagnosis to learn about Hospice Care, but our wide-range of support services and educational programs are available to patients, family members and the community at all stages of life. We also encourage people to schedule an informational meeting with one of our admissions staff so that, when an end-of-life situation is approaching, plans can already be in place to ensure the greatest comfort possible.

Is HospiceCare affiliated with a religious organization?

HospiceCare provides a holistic approach to patient and family care. We are dedicated to providing comfort and to dealing with the medical needs of patients, and to providing emotional and spiritual support to both the patient and the family. Our support is based on the patient’s goals and beliefs. We help set realistic expectations and make available spiritual or other counselors to provide whatever support is desired.

How long can a patient receive HospiceCare?

HospiceCare is the best choice for a patient with a life limiting illness. A terminally ill patient may receive hospice care for as long as necessary after a physician certifies their hospice choice. Hospice care is not limited to six months. This extended coverage exists because experts agree that hospice care best serves patients and families when the partnership with the patient, family and HospiceCare clinical team exists for several months. This time together enriches the end-of-life experience for the patient and family, finding effective relief from pain or symptoms and offering special opportunities — to strengthen relationships, to put one’s affairs in order, to find spiritual peace, and to complete and celebrate life before, during, and after end-of-life situations.
